Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler said hell no to a sequel to the highly quotable classic The First Wives Club, because even though it made millions upon million of dollars and was a success, the studio’s offer wasn’t good enough. They were offered the same deal they got for the first movie. So a First Wives Club sequel never happened
But, according to Netflix… the three are reuniting for a Netflix movie.
Netflix says that Goldie, Diane and Bette will star in a movie called Divanation. The three of them will play the member of a once-popular girl group who had a messy split and are forced to reunite after 30 years of not seeing each other’s faces. Producers are currently looking for a director and the second draft is being written right now.
Hmm, maybe the new movie plot was inspired by the trio singing “You Don’t Own Me” in the mega-hit movie “First Wives Club”.
Watch the Ladies Sing “You Don’t Own Me” from First Wives Club:
No dates have been locked at this time as they are waiting for a new draft of the script before they get a director and set a start date, but that’s no bother, as long as they lock in their leading ladies.
This will be the first time in 20+ years that the three have worked together since changing the course of divorcees everywhere by declaring, “YOU DON’T OWN ME!”
So first Netflix brings us Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in Grace and Frankie and now this? All they need now is a Cher variety hour, hint hint.
